Data Validation

  • During June 2007 we undertook a short data validation exercise at a number of ELIC practices. Read the report on our findings which was submitted to the PCT here Data validation findings.doc
  • This exercise was part of some wider proposals we made about data validation to the PCT in May Data validation PCT.doc
  • The result of the exercise was a very small financial saving and a number of clinical queries and our sense is:
    • Routine validation of hospital activity doesn't produce enough savings to pay for itself so we dont recommend doing this routinely
    • A programme of validation of selected high cost episodes by certain practices througout the year would help confirm this position and ensure the quality of coding and timeliness of communications can be checked and fed back to providers
    • The PCT is putting a lot of efforts into improving the level of GP coding
